Wisdom teeth

Wisdom teeth are the last teeth in your mouth. Some people are lucky enough to not have wisdom teeth. For those of us who have wisdom teeth, they can often cause problems. This is usually because there is not enough space in the jaw for them to completely erupt such that they erupt into an awkward position. Often gums may cover part of the tooth, resulting in food being trapped between the tooth and gum. Decay can also occur between the wisdom tooth and the tooth in front. Not all wisdom teeth should be extracted. Each case should be assessed individually. We need to consider the benefits of wisdom tooth extraction versus the risks. One of the more serious risks of wisdom tooth extraction is nerve damage.
